A rather small parasylvicolous Hyperolius (males 22-28 mm, females 24-29 mm). Phase J: dorsum light brown, often with darker spots sometimes forming an hourglass pattern. Dorsal colour sharply delimited against a dark, irregular lateral band. Canthal area of head is dark and a dark bar is present between the eyes with a broad apex pointing backwards. Tibia as back, but with a dark oblique band. Phase F: Dorsum dark with light spots or marbled in dark and light.

Omitted in Schiøtz (1999) since the species had not been the subject of substantial treatment since Ahl's papers. Resurrected in Schiøtz (2006). Description from Schiøtz (2007) pers. comm.
