A large tree frog (males 27-41 mm, females 36-49 mm) endemic to São Tomé Island. Dorsum uniform brown, or green to blue-green, ventrum marbled in white, orange and black, ventral surfaces of limbs richly marbled in orange and black. Dorsum of males densely beset with small spines. Pupil horizontal.

Hyperolius thomensis is an island giant; it is the largest member of the genus Hyperolius.
