Range Description

This species is known only from three specimens: one each from Guadalcanal (in 1927) (Solomon Islands), New Ireland (in 1963) and Bougainville (in 1979) (Papua New Guinea) (Mayr 1935, Salomonsen 1963, Ripley 1983). Although very similar to Uniform Swiftlet A. vanikorensis, it may be possible to identify in the field but there are no field records except for a series of (unconfirmed) records. Unidentified large swiftlets were seen on New Britain in 1980 (Bishop 1983), New Georgia in 1987 (Blaber 1990) and New Ireland in 1997, 1999 and 2007 (Dutson 2007), possibly referring to this species.
