Range Description

The species occurs from Myanmar to Peninsular (West) Malaysia, including Pulau Tioman (Smith 1943, Taylor 1965). Smith (1943) also reported a specimen from "French Indo-China" of unknown locality; a record from Chanthaburi Province, Thailand (Taylor 1965) is near the Cambodian border. Zhao and Adler (1993) reported that this species occurs in Singapore, but this was apparently in error and the species has never been confirmed from this island (Wallach and Pauwels 2004). The species is also known to occur in Hong Kong (Lazell and Lu 1990, Wallach and Pauwels 2004). Although Hong Kong lies well outside this snake's core range, its rarity suggests that it may in fact be native to this island (M. Lau pers. comm. October 2011).
