They are native to Alaska, Eastern North America, Canada, Saint-Pierre Et Miquelon, North America, northern hemisphere, The Contiguous United States, Greenland, Western North America, and United States. They have simple, spine-shaped leaves, yellow flowers, and fleshy fruit. Individuals can grow to 6 m.
