The pygmy gerbil is a small gerbil. Fur on the upperparts of the body buff-brown and darker than the sides. The color of the side not extending onto forelimb. Underparts and feet white. Ears and the sole of the feet unpigmented. Variable-width band of dark-tipped hairs running from mystacial area beneath eye to base of ear. Supraorbital, postauricular and rump areas whitish in color and prominent. Tail color as back on the upper surface and white on the ventral surface. Tail brush inconspicuous and about one-fourth or less of the tail length. Palm and sole without hairs.
