General Description

 On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth varies from 2.5-5.7 cm diam. with a mean ñ SD = 4.52 ñ 0.74, with abundant mycelium varying from white to yellow, white-beige to brownish orange, with light brown pigmentation, rarely forming sporodochia. On Potato Dextrose Agar PDA. Colonies. After 10 days growth varies from 6.5-9.2 cm length with a mean ñ SD = 7.84 ñ 0.64, with dense, white to light yellow or white with greyish orange aerial mycelium, the undersurface being generally light brown or golden brown; producing verrucose and pale brown "chlamydospores" abundantly and rapidly, singly, in pairs or, more commonly, in chains and clusters. Conidia. Of two types; macroconidia, difficult to find if sporodochium production is rare, thick walled, curved, 3- to 5-septate, 25-55 × 2.5-4.5 μm, each with a short, curved and pointed apical cell, and foot shaped basal cell; microconidia straight, spindle shaped, abundant in the aerial mycelium, usually aseptate, but 1- to 2-septate spores sometimes observed; produced singly, or sometimes in pairs from elaborate polyphialidic conidiogenous cells resulting in branching conidiophores with a tree-like appearance. Teleomorph. Not known. Notes. This species is able to grow on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) medium with a growth rate of more than 2 cm diam., producing white to pale yellow aerial mycelium and yellowish orange pigmentation; it will also grow on mannitol sucrose medium, producing yellow aerial mycelium and brownish orange or grayish orange pigmentation; growth on Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) medium produces white or yellowish aerial mycelium and yellowish pigmentation; growth on Dichloran Chloramphenicol Peptone Agar (DCPA) medium results in a growth rate exceeding 5 cm diam.
