Range Description

This species is found in brackish water along the West African coast, from Senegal to Angola, and on the islands of the Gulf of Guinea.

Central Africa: Periophthalmus barbarus is known from Boma, Banana, Bulabemba and Malela, Lower Congo River. It is also known from Vista and Moanda on the coast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Western Africa: This species is distributed from Senegal to Cameroon, occasionally out of fresh waters, but always close to the coasts.
