Miscellaneous Details

"Taxonomic Notes: Puntius bimaculatus was described by Bleeker (1844) from Sri Lanka. Puntius puckelli Day, 1868 described from Bangalore was considered a synonym of P. dorsalis Jerdon, by Hora ( ) who considered this as a juvenile of the latter. Subsequently Menon and Devi (1992) observed that P. puckelli was distinct from P. dorsalis and placed it under P. bimaculatus of Sri Lanka. The currently valid P. bimaculatus population in India if found to be distinct from the Sri Lankan P. bimaculatus, will assume the original name P. puckelli."
