Range Description

Paralepis speciosawas thought to be endemic to the Mediterranean (Quignard and Tomasini 2000). There are records from the west (D'Onghia et al. 2004), Levantine basin, and east Ionian Sea (Papaconstantinou 1988, D'Onghia et al. 2004, Mytilineou et al. 2005). It also present in the eastern Mediterranean Sea (Golani et al.2006). However, it has been reported from the Azores (Santos et al.1997, Carneiro et al.2014), Madeira (Carneiro et al. 2014) and theCanary Islands (Accessed through the Fishnet2 Portal 2014 March). Single specimens have been caught between 600 and 800 m depth (D'Onghiaet al.2004, Mytilineouet al.2005).
