Images of A. grandiflorum from the St. Lawrence are misidentified as Pennatula borealis in Belley et al. "Effects of hypoxia on benthic macrofauna and bioturbation in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence, Canada." Continental Shelf Research 30.12 (2010): 1302-1313.
This large and common species in the Gulf of St. Lawrence is missing from the catalogue by Brunel et al. 1998, presumably mistaken in name for Virgularia mirabilis (Müller, 1776) which is not present in the Gulf. This is due to older synonyms of Virgularia spp. in the historical literature (available on BHL).
