Diversity description:

This subfamily has about 261 species. Five tribes are recognized: Galleriini Zeller, Tirathabini Whalley, Cacotherapiini Munroe, Megarthridiini Whalley, and Joelminetiini Speidel and Witt. Tirathabini includes the vast majority of galleriine genera, and Galleriini, with five or six genera, is probably a derived clade within it (cite!). Cacotherapiini includes a few small-bodied genera of mainly Nearctic distribution, most diverse in aridlands. Megarthridiini comprise several large-bodied, plesiomorphic genera in the Palaeotropics and Nearctic. Joelminetia includes three Southeast Asian species with striking wing pattern, which share only a plesiomorphy (presence of ocelli) with Megarthridiini.
