Description of Heterosporis

In fish, polymorphic with microspores and macro-spores and sometimes additional intermediate sized spores; merogony - meronts enclosed in a distinct wall of parasite origin (sporophorocyst) which grows as the parasite develops; spores are ovoid, with large posterior vacuole when observed fresh; exospore is thin and uniform, endospore moderately thick and uniform; polar tube isofilar: microspores measure 3 x 1.5 µm, with about 8 coils in a single rank; macrospores measure 79 x 23 µm, with 30+ coils arranged in three ranks; type species H. finki Schubert, 1969 in connective tissue of Pterophyllum scalare (Osteichthyes, Cichlidae).
