Submargarita unifilosa Thiele, 1912 (Fig. 146)

Submargarita unifilosa Thiele, 1912: 190, pl. 11, fig. 20: Powell, 1960: 132: Dell, 1972b: 33; Egorova, 1982: 18, fig. 89.

MATERIAL EXAMINED: NZOI Stns A449, A470; Hero Stn 26; USNM, 66°32-94'S, 93°00-90'E, Davis Sea, 80 m.

DESCRIPTION: Described by Thiele from 89°E, S. unifilosa can now be recorded also from 93°E, the Ross Sea and off the Antarctic Peninsula in depths of 80-377 m (in the Ross Sea from 362-377 m). When more extensive collections of smaller molluscs are available, it will probably be found to be more widespread.

REMARKS: The species is refigured for comparison. The diagnostic characters appear to be the trochiform shell with its height slightly greater than its diameter, the comparatively prominent single, raised spiral cord at the level of the adapical margin of the aperture, a few minor incised spiral striae on the last whorl, and the smooth base.”
