Perennial herbs. Leaves succulent. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual. Inflorescences of paired cymes, lacking the conspicuous bracts found in Tradescantia, either sessile in the axils of the upper leaves or in stalked compound cymes. Sepals (2)3. Petals (2)3, white or pink. Stamens 6 or 1-3; all similar; filaments hairless, rarely bearded; anthers with broad connectives. Ovary 2-3-locular; ovules 2 per loculus. Capsule spherical.
