Diagnosis Elachistocleis erythrogaster is easily distinguished from all other known species of this genus by the deep black throat in males and females, its black and bright blue marbled lateral surface, and its flashy redorange venter with some irregular black and bright blue speckled blotches towards the posterior. Furthermore it differs from the sympatric E. bicolor in its advertisement call, and lack of femoral stripe.
