Range Description

Historically, this species is known from about twelve occurrences from the Ocmulgee, Little Ocmulgee, Ohoopee, and Altamaha Rivers of Georgia (Clarke 1981). However, it is currently known from only one river system in Georgia where it occurs in three tributaries of the Altamaha River system: Ocmulgee (two sites); Altamaha (three sites); and Ohoopee (one site) (NatureServe 2009).

Recent genetic and conchological analyses of specimens collected from the Ogeechee River in 2004 suggest that this species is also present but is rare. Savannah River specimens are still awaiting ID confirmation. This species has an estimated extent of occurrence of just over 20,000 km2, but taking discontinuities within the species range into account, this is more likely to be 5,000-10,000 km2.
