Description of Tintinnopsis radix

Tintinnid ciliate, lorica 350-500 microns, diameter at mouth 45-60 microns, length of pedicel (measured from where lorica begins to narrow) about 120-170 microns, 24-30 spiral turns on the cylindrical part of bowl. The lorica is almost cylindrical for about two-thirds of its length; it often gets slightly wider towards the bowl, and rarely slightly narrower. In the basal third it narrows to a slender and slightly curved pedicel. A spiral structure is clearly visible from the mouth down to the narrowing. The pedicel and the part close to the mouth are thickly covered with adhering particles, but hey are scarcer on the rest of the lorica.
