Range Description

This species is known from eastern Australia and New Zealand, including the Chatham and Kermadec Islands (Holthuis 2002). Specifically, it is known from Tweed Heads, New South Wales to Tasmania (Montgomery and Craig 2005). It is mainly found in the north of the North Island, New Zealand (Ministry of Fisheries Science Group 2008). In Australia, it is more abundant at higher latitudes (above 34 degrees), compared to the southern part of its distribution (Montgomery and Craig 2005).
