Thalli erect and well branched to 30 cms or more long. Distinct main axis with well spaced alternate branching. All axes with short branches, about 3 mm long, of limited growth. Each of these branches with a terminal tuft of uniseriate filaments. Carpomitra costata is similar in having a tuft of hair-like filaments at the ends of the branches. It has, however, a flattened thallus.
