Description of Tetramitus

With four equal flagella arising in a flattened slit at the front end of the cell, surrounded by a distinct anterior lip-like rostrum. Substantial fibrous root associated with flagellar bases. Cysts without pores. Many of the flagellates assigned to this genus are likely to be more closely related to Percolomonas cosmopolitus than to T. rostratus, the type of this genus. Reported from soil, freshwater and faeces.
