Description of Chloromonas

Cells mostly radially symmetrical, sometimes curved, slightly asymmetrical or dorso-ventrally flattened; papilla present or absent; 2 equal flagella; chloroplast single, variable in shape; pyrenoid always absent; eyespot present or absent; nucleus more or less centrally located; usually two (rarely one) contractile vacuoles; asexual reproduction by 4 (rarely 2 or 8) zoospores; sexual reproduction ranging from isogamous to anisogamous (rarely oogamous); resting stages as in Chlamydomonas which it resembles but lacks pyrenoids. .
