Diversity description:

The Tischeriidae represents rather small family in comparison to many other groups of Lepidoptera. At present three genera and 107 species are described for the world fauna including species described by Meyrick from tropical regions (Meyrick, 1908, 1911, 1915, 1934, 1936) and 21 species are described in Puplesis* and Diškus, 2003 (three of these species are left unnamed). Later two new species from Galapagos were described by Landry and Roque-Albelo (2004). Additionally, 13 new species from Belize (Central America) are recognized, dissected and illustrated and will be published separately (Stonis and Diškus, in press/in prep.). Additionally one new species was recognized from Madagascar (Lees and Stonis, 2007).
