White Catfish or Schuykill Catfish (Ameiurus catus).

A bunch of White Catfish congregate along a boundary line across the surface that attracts all kinds of debris to pick through. It gets consistently greener the farther down you go. With all the competition from invasive Tilapia, armored catfish, not to mention the aggravation from all this algae, and all the 'splashers', it's a wonder this native cat can get a moment to relax in the spring run.White CatfishAmeiurus catus Blue Springs State ParkOrange City, Volusia County Florida, USA Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark IIOlympus 14-42mm II LensPT-EP13 Underwater Housing, PPZR-EP02 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear9 July 2021

This cool cat didn't seem to mind a few close-ups. While not as prolific as the Longnose Gar, or the crowds of invasive Tilapia, there are a bunch of these around.White CatfishBlue Springs State ParkOrange City, Volusia County Florida, USA Olympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear

I don't know what little morsels draw these cats to the surface. I've seen them do this in the vegetation that piles up along this boundary line, as well as underneath the few strainers in the run.White CatfishBlue Springs State ParkOrange City, Volusia County Florida, USA Olympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear
