Biology
Habitat: Dry-mesic to mesic, open white oak-black oak woodlands. Nests are in and under decomposing wood from 8-15 cm diameter, and in one case, in a rotting black oak stump.
Natural History: All earlier records of F. creightoni record the host species as F. neogagates or F. lasioides. Neither of these species occurs at the Missouri localities in Lincoln and Adair Co., where I have found F. creightoni exclusively with F. pallidefulva as host. With its rather small size, slender build and dusky coloration, F. creightoni superficially resembles the local population of this host species at first glance. Raids on the host colonies occur primarily in the late afternoon, though I encountered one in the late morning. F. creightoni workers in the mixed nest do not care for brood, gather sweets, or effectively contribute to nest maintenance.
