Found in flowing and standing waters, especially around submerged woody vegetation. Adults feed on insect larvae, including chironomids as well as zooplankton and fishes. Spawn just prior to or at the onset of the rainy season and its young are first caught in July and August. Oviparous, distinct pairing possibly like other members of the same family (Ref. 205). Marketed fresh or smoked (Ref. 12693).
