Pelagic to benthopelagic, mostly close to shore over hard bottoms. Feeds mostly on fish and incidentally on cephalopods and crustaceans (shrimps and crabs) (Ref. 1371). Caught as bycatch in cod and saithe fisheries. Flesh is dry but of good flavor (Ref. 35388).
