Inhabits eel-grass beds near rocks. Feeds on small invertebrates (Ref. 4742). Eggs are laid in the summer in a seaweed nest (Ref. 35388). Used in salmon culture as cleaner fish (Helmut Tethmeyer, pers. comm.).
