Found in sluggish rivers and floodplains of the lower Mekong. Feeds on aquatic invertebrates (Ref. 12693) and insects (Ref. 9497). Reported to be a mouth brooder. Occasionally seen in markets. Its bright coloration makes it a desirable aquarium fish (Ref. 12693).
