Description:
Heterosigma (het-err-owe-sig-ma) akashiwo, small to medium-sized raphidophyte, with two emergent flagella, anterior flagellum beats with an undulating pattern, posterior flagellum trails. Many small green or yellow green plastids. No eyespot. Some members of this genus produce toxins. Phase contrast microscopy.
