Ant cricket
Description:
This tiny cricket 3mm is one that lives in and around ant nests and ant trails. Notice it has very large cerci (at the back). Its back hopping legs seem to go the wrong way. I was hoping to find some more of these and get better photos but have been unable to find more just yet. Stay tuned... They are quite fascinating.Matt Williams DEC states " According to Holldobler and Wilsons book on ants, these crickets Lick host ant secretions, prey on host ants eggs, solicit regurgitated food; adult and immature crickets follow trails of ants; feed on prey brought in by ants."More information at Atlas of Living Australia 4 August 2012 New find in another location
