Image of Neolentinus ponderosus (O. K. Mill.) Redhead & Ginns 1985

Description:

This is a mushroom I spotted on the Ken Patrick Trail north of Point Imperial and south of the Saddle Mountain Trailhead. Any help identifying it will be appreciatedI spent a long weekend hiking, backpacking and camping on the North Rim and down the North Kaibab Trail. hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=417&start=0&EXT=T...{edit}thanks to Fool-On-The-Hill for identifying as Lentinus ponderosus Giant sawtooth mushroom{end edit} I didn't know what to look for at the time. I'm not sure I can tell the difference between L. ponderosus and Neolentinus ponderosus from this photo. I guess it's a difference between brown rot and white rot(?){2nd edit} thanks to Treegrow for clearing up my confusion. "Actually, Lentinus ponderosus and Neolentinus ponderosus are two names applied to the same species. Neolentinus ponderosus is the current name according to Species Fungorum." {end 2nd edit}Polyporaceae, Polyporales, Incertae sedis, Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota, FungiPublished in Field Guide to North American Mushrooms, University of California Press, by R.
