2011-08-05 Vienna XXII. district, Lobau National Park (153 msm Quadrant 7865/1).German name: HerbstzeitloseThis is the first flowering one I saw this year (that is, except for
this var. vernale, obviously).Usually, flowering season begins only in mid august (around 15th at the earliest, more typical would be between 20th and 25th); 5th of august is extraordinarily early. However, it is the only one I saw on this day - while in full bloom there are thousands upon thousands of them, on the meadows of Lobau.

2009.08.20: Austria, Vienna XXII. district: 153 m AMSL, meadow: old flower; pollen has darkened already, also it seems that its bud has been damaged before opening. This is the very first flower (the very oldest one) I found this year; it could have opened already on 2009.08.18 (but not before as it wasn't there on the 17th of august).Common.German name: Herbstzeitlose.

2011-04-03 Vienna XVII. district (near Dornbach/Alserbach, 310 msm Quadrant 7763/4).German name: HerbstzeitloseRarely you see this one flowering in spring, while typically it's flowering in autumn. As few people know this most sightings of C. autumnale in spring probably are mistaken for some Crocus species: one just needs to count stamen, of which Colchicum has 6 but Crocus only 3.
