Hamelia patens (Scarletbush) is a species of shrub in the family Rubiaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Mata AtlâNtica, Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio De Janeiro, AmazôNia, Espirito Santo, Roraima, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Acre (Brazil), Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso Do Sul, U.S. Virgin Islands, US Minor Outlying Islands, ParaíBa, Pará, GoiáS, Puerto Rico, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande Do Sul, Caatinga, The Contiguous United States, Pantanal, Cerrado, SãO Paulo, Ceará, Pampa, and RondôNia. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by European honey bee, Gold Rim Swallowtail, Euglossa dilemma, and Pipevine Swallowtail. Individuals can grow to 3.8 m.
