Carex nigra (Common Sedge) is a species of perennial grass in the family sedges. It has a self-supporting growth form. It is associated with freshwater habitat. Common Sedge is native to Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, the contiguous United States, Canada, and Greenland. It has simple, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph. Individuals can grow to 0.2 m.
