Maximum longevity: 16.2 years (captivity)
Observations: One specimen lived 16.2 years in captivity (Richard Weigl 2005). Although maximum longevity could be underestimated, they could be shorter-lived than the hairy armadillo (*Chaetophractus villosus*).
