Symphyotrichum ascendens (Western Aster) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Canada, The Contiguous United States, and The Americas. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Lycaena editha, Hemipenthes morioides, Ashmeadiella cactorum, and Dianthidium subparvum. Individuals can grow to 0.097 m.
