Ardea purpurea (Purple Heron) is a species of birds in the family Ardeidae. It is associated with freshwater habitat. It is found in the Indo-Malayan Realm, the Palearctic, the Afrotropics, and Australasia. Purple Heron is a crepuscular vertivore. Individuals can grow to 1218 g. Reproduction is dioecious. Purple Heron has parental care (pair provides care). It relies on flight to move around.
