This little longlegged fly is the size of a grain of rice and one of the two bluest creatures I have ever met. Despite their micro size, they are predatory and feed on even tinier insects.

Dolichopodidae Long legged fly These little flies were flying above the leaf litter under trees along a permanent stream. They are able to jump out of a photo when the flash goes off, so I resorted to using a high ISO and fast speed. It works but makes the photos very grainy (noisy). Will have to try something else another day. :-)It was interesting to watch these little flies running, jumping and flying around on the leaves. This one jumped on the white bits on the leaf as if it was a cat playing with a mouse. It pushed the white (maybe a lerp case from the leaves above) bits until it realised it wasn't moving. A mite ran through nearby but was ignored. Photo: Jean
