Large and distinctive eye with a vertical elongated pupil and white blotches (Ref. 48635).Description: Characterized by grey color grading to whitish on ventral head and belly; bluish hue on dorsal and anal fins; 10 caudal rays; depth of body at gill opening about 16-18 in TL; cleft of mouth reaching below middle of eye; origin of dorsal fin above gill opening; anus anterior to middle of body; small jaw teeth, villiform in 2-3 rows anteriorly, tapering to single row at rear of jaw; several rows of intermaxillary teeth anteriorly, tapering to single row posteriorly (Ref. 90102).

Occurs in shallow sandy and muddy bottoms (Ref. 48635). Benthic (Ref. 75154). Several similar species throughout the Indo-Pacific (Ref. 48635). Rarely seen and usually at night on sand, rubble and mud bottoms in 3-15 m (Ref 90102).

The sea conger (Ariosoma anagoides), also known as the big-eye conger,[3] is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[4] It was described by Pieter Bleeker in 1853, originally under the genus Conger.[5] It is a tropical, marine eel which is known from the western Pacific Ocean, including Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan; the eastern China Sea, and the East Indies. It leads a benthic lifestyle and dwells in sand and mud. Males can reach a maximum total length of 51 centimeters.[4]
