Lobed Dreamer

Characterized by having escal morphology: escal bulb with small rounded, anteriorly to anteroventrally directed papilla on anterior midline, continuous internally with slightly larger posteriorly to posterodorsally directed papilla on dorsal midline; compressed posterior appendage sigmoidal in shape and usually twice as long as escal bulb; darkly pigmented swollen basal part of posterior appendage in specimens 84mm and larger; presence of filaments on posterior appendage, pigmented in specimens 84 mm and larger; dorsal fin rays 5-8; anal fin rays 4-6; pectoral fin rays 17-22 (Ref. 86949).

廣泛分布於世界三大洋之熱帶及亞熱帶海域。臺灣分布於東北部海域。

少見魚類，除學術研究外，無經濟價值。

體黑，體型略為延長，側扁。上下頜等齊，較為尖銳；口裂大，約為水平；口內牙齒數量眾多，相當細密且柔軟；蝶耳骨棘，方骨棘及關節骨棘相當發達。吻觸手支鰭骨外露於鼻端；餌球結構簡單，具後分支，背部中央具筆直之乳狀突起。背鰭及臀鰭隱密於皮下，僅末端露出；臀鰭鰭條間皮膜具黑色素覆蓋，僅末端分叉。主鰓蓋上分叉尖細且長；下鰓蓋骨下方圓，上端尖細；具蝶耳骨棘；額骨背面相當平直。雄魚不寄生，鼻區具色素；後鼻孔接近眼部睛；下齒骨齒4-10顆。計算形質：背鰭鰭條6；臀鰭鰭條5；胸鰭鰭條16/18(R/L)；尾鰭鰭條11。測量形質(in %SL)：吻觸手長度38.9；頭長40.3；頭高36.0；上頜長30.2；下頜長39.6。下頜牙齒多於150；鋤骨齒4。

主要棲息於光線微弱或無光線之深海區；幼魚為漂浮性，生活在食物豐富的海洋上層水域；變態期後的魚種則生活在遠洋深海中層或較底層水域。
