Liatris pycnostachya Michx.

Liatris pycnostachya (Prairie Blazing Star) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Eastern North America, The Contiguous United States, and North America. They have simple, broad leaves, purple flowers, and achene. Flowers are visited by Conops, Triepeolus simplex, Centrinus picumnus, and Diabrotica cristata. Individuals can grow to 1.1 m.
