Silphium laciniatum (Compassplant) is a species of perennial herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Eastern North America, The Contiguous United States, Canada, The Contiguous United States, and North America. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Black Swallowtail, Holcopasites heliopsis, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, and Meromyza americana. Individuals can grow to 0.5 m.
