KIRKOMYCES Benny, 1995 (Mycologia 87:922); 1 sp. (Benny 1995a, 1995b).
Kirkomycesproduces mostly simple sporangiophores that arise directly from the substrate and terminate in a columellate, nonapophysate deliquescent walled, multispored sporangium. Smaller multispored, persistent-walled sporangia arise along the sporangiophore that are borne on long, recurved to twisted and contorted pedicels. Zygospores are unknown (Benny, 1995a, 1995b).
Type species:K. cordense
Species of Kirkomyces:
K. cordense(B.S. Mehrotra & B.R. Mehrotra) Benny, 1995 (Mycologia 87:922).
Kirkomyceswas originally namedKirkiaBenny (Benny, 1995a, 1995b).Kirkomycesis probably only known from a single isolate.
