Plants 1-4 dm. tall, rather copiously glandular-pubescent ; leaves crowded on the short caudex, the blades spatulate to oblanceolatespatulate, 2-8 cm. long, or rarely shorter, sharply or sometimes broadly toothed mostly above the middle ; scapes solitary or several together, rather widely paniculate, the branches ascending; bracts much smaller than the leaves, except the lower one or two ; flowers terminating the stem, branches and branchlets, but on many of the ultimate branchlets represented by clusters of bulblets ; sepals oblong-ovate to triangular-ovate, 1-1.5 mm. long; petals 3.5-6 mm. long, the 3 upper with lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate blades, the 2 lower with elliptic or spatulate -elliptic blades ; follicles 4-6 mm. long, the style-tips divergent.
Type locality : Sitka.
Distribution : Alaska to British Columbia, Montana and Oregon, and on the adjacent islands.

Plants 0,4-3 dm. tall, the caudex commonly somewhat elongated ; leaves approximate or crowded at the end of the caudex, the blades oblong-oblanceolate to narrowly or broadly spatulate, 1.5-7.5 cm. long, sharply toothed above the middle or in small plants only near the apex, sparingly pubescent or almost glabrous ; scapes solitary or tufted, cor3anbose above ; bracts much smaller than the leaves ; flowers not replaced by clusters of bulblets ; sepals ovate-lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, nearly glabrous ; petals 4.5-5 mm. long, the 3 upper with lanceolate blades truncate at the base, the 2 lower spatulate ; follicles 6-6.5 mm. long, the short style-beaks spreading.
Type locality : Sweden .
Distribution : Circumboreal ; also in alpine Europe and Asia.
