Clidemia hirta (Soapbush) is a species of shrub in the family melastomes. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Amapá, Rio De Janeiro, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso Do Sul, GoiáS, Espirito Santo, SãO Paulo, Santa Catarina, Sergipe, Mato Grosso, Acre (Brazil), Amazônia, Maranhao, Roraima, Bahia, Paraná, Mata Atlântica, Caatinga, U.S. Virgin Islands, Pernambuco, The Contiguous United States, Minas Gerais, Piauí, RondôNia, Rio Grande Do Sul, Cerrado, Ceará, Puerto Rico, ParaíBa, Pará, Alagoas, and Tocantins. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Halictonomia clidemiae. Individuals can grow to 4.6 m.
