Hesperis matronalis (Dame's Violet) is a species of biennial herb in the family crucifers. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They have simple, broad leaves, purple flowers, and loculicidal capsule fruit. Flowers are visited by Eastern Giant Swallowtail, Nessus Sphinx, small white, and Camberwell beauty. Individuals can grow to 4.5 feet.
