Streptogyna americana is a species of perennial grass in the family true grasses. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Acre (Brazil), Pará, RondôNia, Ceará, Amazônia, Maranhao, Mata Atlântica, Mato Grosso, Roraima, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais, ParaíBa, and Amapá. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 1 m.
