Alternanthera philoxeroides (Alligator Weed) is a species of shrub in the family pigweed. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to Mato Grosso, SãO Paulo, North America, Peru, Cerrado, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, ParaíBa, Bahia, Pampa, Espirito Santo, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Amapá, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Mata AtlâNtica, Venezuela, Alagoas, AmazôNia, Paraguay, Caatinga, Pará, Rio Grande Do Norte, Pantanal, Minas Gerais, Argentina, and Rio Grande Do Sul. They have simple, broad leaves and white flowers. Flowers are visited by Common buckeye, Syrphid fly, and Melangyna novaezelandiae. Individuals can grow to 0.061 m.
