It is native to Puerto Rico, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima, São Paulo, Distrito Federal, Ceará, Santa Catarina, Acre (Brazil), Minas Gerais, Alagoas, Pará, Amazônia, Bahia, Mata Atlântica, Espirito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Amazônia, and Mato Grosso. Creeping Spleenwort has compound, broad leaves. It is a photoautotroph.
